To save money, Jon has been filing tax returns listing the pair as a married. The day of reckoning comes when the Internal Revenue Service informs the "couple" they're going to be investigated by a Mr. Spinner. Leslie masquerades as a housewife, aided by Jon's fiancee, Kate. Complicating matters further Leslie and Kate are having an affair behind Jon's back, Jon's mother drops in unexpectedly to meet her son's fiancee, and Leslie's ex girlfriend shows up demanding to know why Leslie has changed and won't see her anymore. The premiere was at New Jersey's Dam Site Dinner Theatre.

A border-line farce worth noting...

We stumbled across this play when trying to decide on something to perform in the actor's arena of our local community theater. We were pleasantly surprised at the basis for this show. The cast has had a wonderful time performing it, the director had a great time translating it, and the audience has had a fantastic time viewing it. I rate this play a fantastic effort on the part of the author. Kudos.

There's More to Life than Just Death and Taxes.

LOVE, SEX, AND THE I.R.S. is a slapstick farce from the comedy-writing team of Van Zandt and Milmore. It follows the pattern of men dressing in drag and mixed-up identities found in some of their other plays which makes performing their shows so much fun to perform and such a delight to watch. In this play, Jon Trachtman and Leslie Arthur are two life-long friends, roommates, and musicians who are down-on-their-luck. Jon is engaged to Kate Dennis, but Kate and Leslie have been making-out behind Jon's back. Jon has been saving he and Leslie money over the years by claiming that Leslie and he are married. When an I.R.S. agent shows up to verify the truth, Leslie is forced to pretend to be a woman. Throw into the mix the arrival of Jon's mother and Leslie's girlfriend and you've got a cauldron of hilarity. A very funny play.

Wonderful Play for Community Theatre

This certainly a great community theatre play for a Spring production (April 15th tax time). The right cast members will have your audience in stitches throughout the whole play. I've play Floyd Spinner (IRS man) several times and rate it as one of my all-time favorite roles as I manage to go over the top with this character. Highly recommend it!
